synopsis

Book I:
Emiel, the narrator, dives into his memories to trace back the roots of his depression. We then follow him through the mountains of Spain, where he climbs out of it. On this increasingly absurd quest, Emiel meets intriguing figures and moves through wondrous landscapes; all while he questions everything he ever thought he knew.

Book II:
Having accomplished his goal, Emiel now faces an empty world. The second book in this volume sees him grappling with the enormous change this process brought along, while starting a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, where he meets Niya. Along with some other people, their conversations help him explore the big topics that occupy humanity – including truth, delusion, ego, fear, logic, and more – and analyse the process he went through. Meanwhile, you’re facing an important decision…

additional information
  • the process to complete this book start to publish, took exactly 3 years. this excludes the actual process.
  • the first three acts of book I are directly lifted from the hundreds of pages i wrote while going through the process described in the book. in order to make it readable, large parts were left out.
  • an earlier version of this manuscript was stolen, rewritten – AI, by the looks of it – and put for sale on amazon. it’s still up i think, under the title: universal delusions.
  • this was the first proper thing i ever started writing – i didn’t start with the intention of writing a book – and taught myself how to write by doing so. i left the learning curve mostly intact to add to the idea of the character maturing and growing into themselves. (sorry if it starts as a tough read…)

a special thanks to my mother and vera for their helpful feedback, as well as pj, lila and saule for providing a place to write and reflect in silence.
